The growth of phablets.

Last updated: 9 December 2015

We all love our smartphones, but if you’re looking for the ultimate mobile viewing experience, why not try a phablet?

What is a phablet?

Basically, when you’re using a phone with a screen that measures between 5.6-7in diagonally, you’re looking at a phablet.

Smartphones and tablets meet in the middle to give you a bigger screen without compromising on portability.

Why buy a phablet?

Because phablets travel well and can carry extra technology than a phone, you really do get the best of both worlds. They offer tablet-like features, and with some you can run two apps at once in a split-screen design - so you won’t have to enlarge or distort images.

Compared to normal phones, a phablet will generally store more, show more and process more.

The latest phablets are strong and have durable screens, yet they’re light and easy to handle. Manufacturers have remembered that while it may be a good idea to make the screens bigger, our hands haven’t got bigger and usability is vital. So most phablets have a slick design and comfortable gripping points.

Large touchscreens make navigation and browsing a breeze. And devices like the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 have a stylus pen which works with the full touchscreen, so you can do even more with your content on the go and enjoy a unique user-interface.

There’s also the added bonus of more battery power, without compromising on design or weight – as phablets tend to last a little longer than standard smartphones.

Should I choose a phablet?

Maybe you’re looking for the power of a tablet but the connectivity of a phone? Maybe you’re just after a different handheld experience?

Whether you love games, apps, movies, internet and TV on the go; or you need a device that can make it easier to handle your business emails and documents, a phablet could well be the device you’re looking for.

Pop into your nearest Three store you’ll be able to try out some of the best phablets around, like the new iPhone 6s Plus or the Samsung Galaxy S6 edge+ with its 5.7in screen, 16MP camera and super-fast octo-core Exynos 7420 processor.
