Fancy taking your PlayStation 4 adventures with you wherever you go? If so, the Sony Z5c and Sony Z3 have you covered.

With Sony’s Remote Play function, you can stream games to your tablet or smartphone and play whenever and wherever you like using onscreen controls or a PS4 Dualshock controller. In other words, you never have to worry about a boring commute again.

Excited? You should be. Here’s how to get your game on:

How to set up Remote Play for PlayStation.

Setting up Remote Play on your Sony handset is really easy. Simply download the PlayStation ‘Remote Play’ app from the Google Play store. If you're not sure whether or not your Sony device is compatible, don't worry - Google Play won't allow the download to take place unless it’s going to work.

Once the app is installed on your phone, turn on the Remote Play function on your PS4. To do this, head to Settings > Controller guide > Register. You should be able to toggle it on from here.

While you're doing this, it's worth making sure that you have both your PS4, and your Sony Z5 or Sony Z3 connected to the same home network, as this allows you to search and pair the devices. Keep in mind that an ethernet connection for your PS4 will generally provide the smoothest play quality, but you'll still be able to use the app if both your phone and PlayStation run on Wi-Fi.

When you load the app on your phone, you'll be given the option to connect a PS4 Dualshock controller. If you only have one controller, Sony suggests skipping this step because you'll need the controller with your PS4 set-up a little later.

Depending on how fast your connection is, head to settings to turn up your video quality: Settings > Video quality for remote play > High.

Add a Dualshock controller.

For most people, the best Remote Play experience comes when they use the Dualshock controller.

You can purchase a clip-on mount for this that allows you to attach your Sony handset directly to the controller (although this method can be pretty tiring as it’s a bit weighty). Alternatively, just put your phone somewhere you can see it easily, and hold on to the controller as you would normally.

If you think you're going to use the Remote Play option fairly often, then it may be worth having a dedicated PS4 controller, as it can be tedious to constantly switch between pairing your controller with the PS4, and then the phone. Also, it’s worth remembering that while the Remote Play does have on-screen controls, they can take up some valuable space, which means they might not be ideal for some games.

And an extra tip, try to avoid connecting to the PS4 through your mobile connection if you haven’t got a lot of data in your plan. Want to get your game on whenever and wherever without worrying about data allowances? Switch over to one of our All-you-can-eat data plans.
