Fear of receiving a huge bill for going over our internet ‘allowance’ stops many of us making the most of our smartphones.

This is largely because the allowance is presented to us in measurements we simply don’t understand.

What is a gigabyte? How many will I need? They’re questions that have baffled many of us.

The confusion often starts before we’ve even signed up to a price plan. Most of us know how long we spend on the phone and how many texts we send each month but internet usage is another matter.

The table below provides a rough guide as to what you can expect to do each month for data plans ranging from 500MB to 15GB. There are around 1000MB in a GB.

When it comes to choosing a price plan for your smartphone, Three offers a solution that takes the stress out of using the mobile internet.

Called The One Plan, it was designed to give customers all the calls, texts and internet they need under a single price. It’s available to customers on pay monthly and pay as you go plans.

The One Plan includes something known as all-you-can-eat data. It was inspired by restaurant deals where you pay one price but can keep going back for more. In short, all limits have been lifted on the amount of data you use on your mobile.

The idea is to remove the fear factor, opening up all the possibilities offered by using the mobile internet on a smartphone without worrying about the cost.

Three customers can also keep track of how much data they’ve used on their personal My3 account. My3 can be accessed for free from a phone or computer and it’s also the place where customers can pay and view their bills, change their details, set their preferences and more.

As a further security measure, Three alerts you by text message if you’re about to go over your data allowance.
