It was Mel’s hen weekend. Seven ladies, two dogs, blissful weather and the cutest cottage on the south coast – ours for three days. We kicked off with fish and chips on the beach as soon as we’d unpacked the cars, then we headed back to our country retreat for a Friday night of cocktails and chick flicks.
But how’s a girl supposed to make a round of Cosmopolitans without a hunky bartender to hand? If I was at home, I’d be straight on the computer, where I know I could find and print a recipe in five minutes flat.
Only thing was, our cottage didn’t have internet, and no-one had brought a laptop. I didn’t know where to start. “Maybe I should drive back into town and pick us up some Lambrini,” I sighed. Zoe handed me her phone. “No need for that. Let’s get on YouTube,” she hissed.
We typed in ‘How to make a Cosmopolitan” and
this video came up – just what we needed. Our very own mixologist with a step-by-step walkthrough for novice cocktail makers like us! I felt like Aladdin rubbing a magic lamp.
We watched and paused it as we put all the ingredients together. Turned out they also had a
playlist of guides to making Daiquiris, Martinis, Manhattans… well, once we’d found that, we had to try them all.
Shame we forgot to bring cocktail glasses – but luckily they tasted just as good in teacups!
How YouTube saved my hen weekend.
