Dual Download


  • Go to Triangle key, Services, Music, and choose from our massive selection of full length audio tracks and download them to your handset.

  • For each track you buy, you will get a text message with the web address for this page and a unique code.

  • Go to the web address, enter the code and click Download. Select where you want the track to be stored on your PC and the download will automatically start.

  • Once you have saved the track to your PC, you can then burn it to CD as an audio track (up to 3 times) for playback on standard CD players or you can copy it to your digital music player (up to 3 times) if it supports Windows Media format.

  • Please note the Dual Download service is not available on the Motorola A830, Nokia 7600 and the Motorola C975, and is unavailable on Macintosh computers.

  • A small number of 'Ministry of Sound' tracks are not available via dual downloads. See below for more information.

  • 'First Cut' tracks are unavailable via dual downloads.


    It's simple. You buy a full length audio music track on your 3 mobile and you automatically get to download the PC version for no extra charge. After you have downloaded the audio track to your mobile we will send you a text message with a code, which you will then need to enter in the field above. Once you have entered the code the audio track will automatically be downloaded to your PC.


    We have come up with a list of handy hints to help in case you have any questions.

  • I have just heard about Dual Download. What is it?
  • It is a new music download service which allows 3 UK customers to buy and download music tracks via their 3G network and to listen to them on their handset.
  • Any tracks purchased on the mobile can also be downloaded to a PC via a website at no extra charge
  • How long does it take to download a track to a PC?
  • This depends on the connection of the PC to the Internet. Clearly broadband connections will allow the file to be delivered much quicker than a modem. The length of time also depends on the length of the song.
  • What are the prerequisites for transferring music from my phone to my PC?
  • There is no 'transfer' so to speak
  • When you have purchased the track on your mobile you will receive a text message with a web address and a code to enter.
  • Go to the web address and enter the code in the text message
  • PC file is delivered in Windows Media Player format (version 9)
  • Windows Media Player 9 is available for free on the Microsoft website.
  • What are the prerequisites for listening to music (purchased via my phone) on my PC?
  • Windows Media Player 9
  • OS Windows. IE 5.5 or higher
  • Unavailable for Macintosh
  • Can I make copies of the tracks I have bought?
  • No: the tracks are protected by DRM (Digital Rights Management). Accordingly you have the rights to burn the track to CD as an audio file, 3 times, and 3 times to a digital music player that supports Windows Media format.
  • Although you can copy the physical file to another PC it won’t play because of these license restrictions.
  • Can you listen to the track as it is downloading?
  • No
  • I have lost the code for retrieving my tracks on the web...how can I get hold of it without having to pay again?
  • Unfortunately if you have lost the code you lose the ability to download the PC version of the track.
  • My PC has crashed. Can I recover the tracks I bought?
  • No
  • If your PC crashes, it is not possible to re-download any tracks previously purchased a second time via 3UK. You have to take the necessary precautions by using a burn right to archive the tracks.
  • How much does it cost to download a track to my phone?
  • All tracks are currently 99p regardless of whether you go on to download the PC version.
  • How do you pay for the tracks downloaded?
  • The downloads made on your mobile will be added to your bill or taken directly from your Threepay credit.
  • My PC crashed while I was downloading the track – can I complete the download?
  • Try entering the code again, via the URL – this will usually start the download again. If this does not, then please call 3 Customer Services who will be able to check the latest track that you bought and re-activate the code.
