The new iPhone SE has arrived. It's compact, with a whole host of impressive specs and a pocket-friendly price. Find out everything you need to know, here.

Back in 2016, Apple introduced us to iPhone SE. A more affordable iPhone, packed with impressive specs in a neat, compact design – what’s not to like about that?

And when Apple announced this year’s iPhone SE, we were excited to see what they had planned. Here are the best bits.

What does it look like?

Coming in at 4.7-in, this year’s iPhone SE has kept that compact design that we loved with the OG version. The aluminium and glass finish give it that premium Apple-feel too.  And with the Retina HD display with True Tone, white balance is adjusted automatically. That makes the display easier on your eyes and more natural to look at.

Small iPhone. Huge performance

The A13 Bionic processor is the fastest chip used in a smartphone. And with that under the hood, iPhone SE is the most powerful 4.7-inch iPhone ever. Everything from gaming to using apps is silky smooth. And it’s fast. Twice as fast as 2016’s iPhone SE, in fact.

And with all that power, you need a battery to match. The A13 Bionic chip makes the iPhone SE efficient when it comes to battery life. That means you can watch up to 13 hours of video on a single charge.

Then when you do need to refuel, fast-charge can take you from 0 to 50% in just 30 minutes. It’s wireless charging capable too.

A new camera experience

The new iPhone SE has the same processor as the iPhone 11 and 11 Pro, but a totally different camera system. You get a single-lens 12-megapixel camera that’s been hailed as ‘the best single camera system ever in an iPhone’.

Although you don’t get Apple’s Night Mode, the f/1.8 aperture lets in lots of light.  That means you can shoot in darker conditions. And Smart HDR ‘re-lights’ recognised subjects in a frame making images look more natural, with effective highlight and shadow details.

You can also take pro-looking selfies with the 7-megapixel front camera, because the iPhone SE front-facing camera also comes with Portrait Mode. This is something you don’t get on the comparable iPhone 8.

There’s QuickTake too – the feature Apple announced for iPhone 11 and 11 Pro that lets you quickly toggle between photo and video mode.

So let’s talk about the video.

The rear camera supports high-quality video capture at 4K, up to 60fps. And you get super steady footage thanks to cinematic video stabilisation on both the front and rear cameras. With stereo audio recording, you also get an impressive sound experience when you’re playing back your movies.

Another great feature with iPhone SE is the advanced camera and photo features in iOS 13 itself. The native editing that’s built into the camera can really rival powerful tools that were once available only for photo editing.

Lots to love, less to spend

Now for the bit you’ve been waiting for, the price.  How much is the iPhone SE going to cost? It’s Apple’s most affordable iPhone yet and starts at just £29 a month and £49 upfront. So, what are you waiting for? Pre-order your iPhone SE today.

And that’s not all.  If you take out a Pay Monthly plan before 7 May, you can bag a pair of wireless BeatsX earphones, worth £89.95.
