In December 2008, the government cut VAT from 17.5% to 15%. So at 3, we pass every penny of these savings to you. We’re committed to giving our lovely customers the best-value products and services.
And how does it affect you?
Phones, USB modems, accessories and laptop packages:Whether you’re an existing customer or new to 3, we make sure you reap the benefits of the VAT reduction. All prices shown in our 3Stores and online reflect the lower VAT rate. The only exception to this is our Pay Monthly price plans. These are still displayed according to the 17.5% VAT rate - but don’t worry, you’ll always be billed for the correct, VAT-reduced amount (see ‘Pay Monthly price plans’ for more details).
Pay Monthly price plans:
We'll make sure the VAT reduction is applied to your monthly bills and to all the things you buy that are outside of your inclusive allowance. Our price plans will be advertised in the same way (i.e. Mix & Match 300 at £15) but you'll always pay less.

Pay As You Go Top-ups: 1 December start date
The VAT savings will be given to you as extra credit on your Top-up. So when you top up by £10 you’ll actually have £10.22 of credit. The VAT reduction is applied at the point that the Top-up is activated. So if you buy a Top-up on the 1st December or after, the VAT saving will be added when you activate it. And if you bought a Top-up before the 1st December, but didn’t activate it until that date, that too will include the VAT saving.
