Take action on climate change
Pathway to net zero
To play our part in minimising the impacts of climate change, it’s important that we actively manage our carbon footprint. In 2022, CK Hutchison Group Telecoms set science-based targets aligned to a 1.5-degree pathway, verified by the Science-Based Targets initiative.
The Group targets are to:
- Reduce 50% of absolute Scope 1 and 2 emissions (i.e direct emissions) by 2030 against a 2020 baseline.
- Reduce 42% of absolute Scope 3 emissions (indirect emissions) by 2030.
Our emissions are included in the 2020 footprint, and we’re currently developing a detailed emissions reduction strategy for 2030 across all scopes to support the delivery of the Group target.
Reducing our carbon footprint
Embracing renewable electricity
We want to maintain our renewable electricity levels of at least 97% for directly procured electricity. For some of our buildings – including stores and network – we don’t select the energy supplier directly, so we’re liaising with stakeholders regarding renewable electricity usage at these sites.
Electric vehicles
We want to support our employees to lower their carbon emissions. In 2023, we launched a new scheme offering our employees the chance to purchase an electric vehicle through salary sacrifice. Our target is to have a 5% uptake by 2026.
Electric vehicle deliveries
In 2022, around 244,000 parcels were delivered to customers on all-electric DPD vehicles, saving around 67 tonnes of CO2. That’s the equivalent of planting 263 trees.
Business travel
Our aim is to implement a sustainable travel programme, which will see a 25% reduction in business travel emissions.
Supply chain plastic
Our supply chain team is on a mission to reduce single-use plastics. We’re improving returns packaging, removing plastic wraps on pallets, and changing the way we do things so that we don’t need plastic bags.
Waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE)
As a retailer, we recognise unwanted electrical equipment is the UK’s fastest growing type of waste. But many electrical items can be repaired or recycled. So, our customers can recycle their old electrical and electronic items when purchasing from us.
