The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip3 is another new addition to Samsung’s flip flagships. Should you upgrade to the new Samsung flip phone? What are the benefits of the Flip3 compared to its predecessor: the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5G?

We’ll compare the differences between Samsung’s latest flip phone, the Galaxy Z Flip3 5G, and the earlier Galaxy Z Flip 5G model here.

How does the Samsung Z Flip3 design compare to the original Z Flip?

The Samsung Flip3 retains the clamshell design that defines the Flip series, with some improvements to its Cover Screen. Both phones give you lots of screen space – unfolding to a 6.7in screen. But they’re still compact and thin enough to fit into your pocket when folded. An upgrade for the Flip3 is the enhanced 1.9in Cover Screen, which is 4 times larger than the original Flip 5G. The Cover Screen provides more functionality – including added support for new widgets, an AOD (Always On Display), and message scrolling – without having to open your device. There’s also an emphasis on personalisation, and the new Cover Screen can be customised to suit your style.

Is the Samsung Z Flip3 camera better?

Both the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip3 and Flip 5G have a triple camera system. They come with 2x 12MP rear main cameras, and a 10MP front camera for your selfies. But unlike the Flip 5G, the Flip3 uses Super Clear Glass on its rear cameras. This gives high light transmission, but a reduction in camera flare which can distort the digital sensor. The result is crystal clear photos.

You can unfold the Flip3 in Flex mode, to capture studio-quality selfies when you go hands-free. It also gives you image previews on the Cover Screen, to save unnecessary shots when you’re trying to recreate that picture-perfect moment. And thanks to the Quick Shot feature on the Cover Screen, you can capture things instantly in photo or video, while the phone is still folded.

Is the Flip3 more durable?

Durability is a common concern with flip phones. How many flips can it take before the phone gives up? What happens if it’s accidently dropped in water? These are important questions to ask when you’re planning to spend a lot of money on your new phone.

It’s good to know that the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip3 is IPX8 water-resistant – so you’re covered if you accidently drop it in the sink. And it’s dust-proof too. In fact, the Flip3 is the first ever water-resistant flip phone, giving it a huge advantage over the Flip 5G.

The Flip3 also uses a softer, scratch-resistant Protective Film made of PET (Plastic) on its display, whereas the Flip  TPU has (Urethane). This upgrade makes the Flip3 80% more durable than the Flip – giving you added flexibility when you’re actually ‘flipping’ the phone.

The new Armor Aluminum frame on the Flip3 is 10% stronger than the frame used on the Flip 5G – so it’s lighter and more durable. One key benefit of Armor Aluminum is that it protects against impact. It’s applied on the main body and hinge frame – giving you peace of mind if you do accidently drop it.

Is the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip3 worth the money?

The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip3 is a big improvement on the design of the Flip 5G. It’s lighter and much more durable – with added functionality and an enhanced Cover Screen. It’s even easier to take photos, thanks to the Cover Screen and Quick Shot feature. And if you’re looking for a phone that stands out aesthetically, the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip3 is the one for you.
