What's great about Android?

Customise your phone, so it’s truly your own

Android devices are the most customisable. You can choose your own designs, colours, layouts, shortcuts, and widgets. Create personalised emojis and choose your own AI-generated wallpaper.

Android’s personalised features are especially helpful if you have accessibility needs. You can even get AI to create alt text image descriptions for you with the Talk Back app.

AI-powered experiences

Let Google AI take your productivity and creativity to a whole new level. With Circle to Search, circle images and text for an instant Google search. Use Best Take to perfect your pics by combining the best parts of multiple frames.

Get live language translations for your calls, audio transcribe meetings, auto-generate document summaries – with Google AI, the possibilities really are endless.

Unfold new possibilities

Foldable phones are only available on Android. Instantly turn a phone screen into a tablet-sized screen. Enjoy more epic movie viewing, more incredible gaming action, and more multi-app, multi-tasking for anything and everything you’re working on.

It’s easy to switch to Android

It’s never been simpler to move your favourite apps, photos, chats and more to an Android phone. All you have to do is turn on your new phone and follow the on-screen prompts to transfer all your data and set up your device. It works fastest when you connect both phones by a lightning cable, but you can do it all over Wi-Fi if that’s easier.

Frequently asked questions

An Android phone is a smartphone that uses the Android operating system. Android is the most common operating system that’s used in smartphones and tablets. The operating system is the software which makes the phone work and allows you to interact with it.

Although it was originally developed by Google, Android was made to be ‘open source’, allowing other developers to use and customise the software. That’s why it’s available not just on Google Pixel phones, but it’s also used on Samsung, Motorola and HONOR phones, as well as many others.

No, iPhones like the iPhone 15 series use a different operating system created by Apple, called iOS.

Yes, all Samsung phones are available on Android, including the new Samsung Galaxy S24 series

Yes, all Motorola phones, including the Motorola G34, run on Android.

Most Android phones are now compatible with 5G, but there are a small number of older phones which still work only on 4G. So make sure you check the specs before you place your order.

How long a phone battery lasts depends a lot on how you use it – hours of streaming takes less power than occasionally scrolling or answering emails.

Though many Android phones have batteries that really last, the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra is often cited as having one of the best available. While the 5,000 mAh battery matches the capacity of other phones, the phone works much more efficiently, giving you hours of extra use when you’re using social media or watching videos.

The two phones that vie for the best display top spot are the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra and the Google Pixel 8 Pro.

The S24 Ultra has a large Quad HD+ 6.8in dynamic AMOLED display, with a 2600 nit brightness rating, and a 120 Hz refresh rate.

The Google Pixel 8 Pro boasts a slightly smaller OLED 6.7in Super Actua display, with 2,400 nits of brightness and a 120 Hz display.

The Samsung Galaxy Z series of flip phones will give you a larger than average screen size. The largest is the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5, which has a screen that’s 6.2in when folded, and grows to a huge 7.5in screen when unfolded.

Yes. There’s the Galaxy Z series phones, including the Galaxy Z Flip 5 and the Galaxy Z Flip 4. Motorola also makes several flip phones, including the Motorola Razr 40 and the Motorola Razr 40 Ultra

NFC – Near Field Communication – is available on many Android devices, allowing you to use your phone to make contactless payments. You can turn on NFC by visiting Settings, then selecting Connected devices, then Connection preferences, and then by selecting the NFC menu and switching on.

Facetime is an Apple app that’s available only on the iOS operating system. You can’t install it on an Android device, but if someone with Facetime tries to call you, or sends you a link to join a group chat, you can still answer and join the call using an Android phone.

You can’t set up an AirTag with an Android device. You can, however, download and use the Tracker Detect app with an Android device to track an AirTag.
