Introducing the new Samsung Galaxy Z Flip5 and Z Fold5

July 27, 2023

Samsung’s well known for leading the way with foldable phones. Last year’s Galaxy Z Flip4 and Z Fold4 were hard to beat. So, we were excited to see what Samsung had in store for us at Unpacked 2023.

And it didn’t disappoint.

Enter the Galaxy Z Flip5 and Z Fold5

Want to get up close and personal with the latest phones in the Z series? Here’s everything you need to know.

Z series design

The Galaxy Z Fold5 and Z Flip5 have both had a revamp in their design. Let’s kick off with the Z Fold5 – the larger of the 2:

Galaxy Z Fold5 design

Unfolded, it has a 7.6in, super-smooth cinematic display. Scrolling through videos, catching up with the latest series, or gaming – see it all in captivating detail. It’s also Samsung’s brightest foldable display yet, making everything crisp and clear, even in the sunshine.

And with Flex Mode, you can take multitasking to new levels – watch the game in the top half of your screen and debate the ref’s decision in the group chat in the bottom half.

The Galaxy Z Fold5 is lighter, thinner, and tougher than earlier models. With Gorilla® Glass Victus® 2 and Armour Aluminium, it’s more robust. And with an IPX8 water resistance rating, spills and showers aren’t a problem.

The Galaxy Z Flip5 front display comes in at 3.4in, making it huge compared to the Z Flip4’s 1.9in display. More space means more room for activities. Before you even open the phone, you can make calls, check the weather, or even use Samsung Pay.

And that’s not all. With Flex Window, you can completely customise the cover screen. Add widgets, photos, videos, or GIFs – whatever you fancy.

The front display may be larger than before but thanks to the new zero-gap hinge and a slimmer design, it’s still compact and fits perfectly in your pocket.

When you do unfold, it opens out into a generous 6.7in display – perfect for video calls or streaming. And with a 120Hz refresh rate, you know scrolling and gaming are going to be silky smooth.

Samsung camera setups can be hard to beat. Here’s a closer look at what you can expect from the Galaxy Z Fold5 and Z Flip5 cameras.

Galaxy Z Fold5 camera

With a triple rear camera made up of a 50MP main camera, 12MP ultra-wide, 10MP and optical 3x tele camera for those incredible close-ups – the Galaxy Z Fold5 makes it easy to take perfect photos every time. There’s also a 10MP front camera for shareworthy selfies.

When it comes to selfies, we’ve all come to expect a slightly lesser quality photo, owing to the limited space available on the front screen of our phones.

But imagine being able to use your main camera instead? That’s where the Galaxy Z Flip5 really shines. Use FlexCam to adjust and find your perfect angle. And Quick Shot to use your cover screen to perfect your pose, without even opening your phone. The 12MP main camera lets in more light and reduces lens flare, giving you more detail and makes every skin tone look natural – whatever the lighting.

Power that lasts

We all want a phone that can go the distance – no one likes having to carry a charger around with them wherever they go, do they?

Luckily, that’s not an issue for these foldable devices. With a 4270mAh and 3700mAh battery for the Galaxy Z Fold5 and Z Flip5 respectively, running out of power isn’t something you need to worry about.

Both devices have 25W fast charging and 15W wireless fast charging too, so when you do need to recharge, it’s super-quick.
