Managing your cards
Once you've registered a card, you can make it your default or delete it when you no longer want to use it.
Registering a card
When you register a card, we'll save the details to your account, making payments quick and easy. You can still make payments without registering, though.
You can register a card as soon as you've set up your account. We accept any of the major card types, including Visa, Maestro, MasterCard, and American Express. Just make sure your card's registered to a UK address.
Up to 2 cards can be registered at once – but you'll need to pick one to be your default. That'll be the one that's automatically used for any recurring payments you set up.
To register a new card, follow these steps:
- Open the Three Pay As You Go app or log in to your account
- Go to Saved cards in the menu
- Select Add a card
- Confirm your name
- Check the address. All look good?
- If it does, hit Confirm
- If it doesn't, select Use a different address and fill in your info
- Enter your card details
- Hit Pay Now
If your card's been registered successfully, you'll see a confirmation screen. And if there's been an error, we'll let you know – hit Try again or Use a different card to have another go.
If you've saved a card before, you'll see the option to make your newly-registered card the default one – just pick Yes or No.
Changing your default card
If you have a second card saved to your account, you can make it your default one by following these steps:
- Open the Three Pay As You Go app or log in to your account
- Go to Saved cards in the menu
- Below the card you'd like to use for recurring payments, select Make this card my default
- Enter the card's CVV number (those 3 digits on the back)
Deleting a registered card
You can delete a registered card any time you like. Just follow these steps:
- Open the Three Pay As You Go app or log in to your account
- Go to Saved cards in the menu
- Select Delete this card below the one you want to remove
- To go ahead, hit Yep, delete this card
Remember: you'll always need at least 1 card registered to your account to make recurring payments.
If you delete your default card but have a second card set up, this'll automatically be used for any recurring payments. To make a new card your default, you'll just need to register it first.
To register a new card, follow the steps above under 'Registering your card'.
Making payments
Saving your cards makes payments much easier, but it's not the only way to pay.
Paying with a saved card
If you've registered your card, making payments couldn't be easier. Once you've selected what you want to buy, just follow these steps:
- Select the card you'd like to use from Saved cards
- Enter the card's CVV number (those 3 digits on the back)
- Hit Pay Now to make your payment
Paying with a new card
If you haven't registered a card yet, no problem – you'll just need to enter your details. Once you've chosen what you want to buy, follow these steps:
- Confirm the name that's displayed. By default, the name that's saved on your account will show here, but you can change this by selecting Enter a different name
- Check that the displayed card address is correct. If it isn't, or you don't already have an address registered to your account, select Use a different address, thenenter your details
- Enter your card number, expiry date, and CVV (those 3 digits on the back)
- Hit Pay Now to make your payment
If you have a saved card slot available, you'll be asked if you'd like to save this one. This'll make payments much quicker next time.
Making payments without logging in
To make a payment when you're not logged in, follow these steps:
- When prompted, enter the title and name that's on your card, then hit Confirm
- Find the right address by entering your postcode and selecting Find address, or enter it manually
- Enter your card number, expiry date, and CVV (those 3 digits on the back)
- Select Pay Now to make your payment
Failed payments
If a payment fails, you'll get an error message. To attempt a payment again with the same card, hit Try again.
If you make 3 failed attempts, you'll be temporarily blocked from making payments with that card. This is a security measure to keep you and your account safe.
If you don't want to try making a payment again with the same card, no problem. Just choose Use a different card.
Other useful information
- If you change your mind, you can hit Cancel at any point before you make your payment
- If you go ahead and your payment is successful, you'll see a confirmation on the screen
