The age of widespread AI use is now upon us, from companies using automated chatbots to talk to customers, through to teachers using AI tools to help create their lesson plans.

One area of AI which is rapidly advancing is the improvement in smartphone AI. This use of AI now offers a host of everyday uses, with several of the leading smartphone providers offering intriguing AI capabilities.

One of the most exciting announcements in this field has been from Samsung, with their recent launch of Galaxy AI, which is where we will be placing our focus today as we give you the lowdown on Samsung’s AI launch.

What is Galaxy AI?

Essentially, Galaxy AI is a range of AI-assisted features and apps owned by Samsung and available on supported Samsung Galaxy devices. They can also utilise some AI-assisted smartphone apps from third-party providers.

The capabilities were initially launched for the Samsung Galaxy S24 series, but a number of the features have since become available for previous models within the S series and a range of other devices.

How does Galaxy AI work?

Galaxy AI features are currently being provided for free on supported Samsung Galaxy devices until the end of 2025, so if you have one of those devices, you should be able to start using some of the features right away. To access certain features, you may need to login to your Samsung Account.

For those who do not currently have a supported Samsung Galaxy device, there may still be an opportunity to get a taste of Galaxy AI from another device, with more on that further down the page.

What are the best features on Galaxy AI?

There are a range of exciting features available through Samsung’s Galaxy AI, which are only going to increase as the technology develops and is applied to new areas. Some of the best features right now include:

Live Translation

One of the most impressive uses of AI available via Samsung’s Galaxy AI is its live translation capabilities, with the AI functionality able to translate both calls and in-person conversations in real-time.

This is a really exciting development for those who love to travel. It’s essentially like having an interpreter with you at all times, perfect for avoiding crossed wires at restaurants, when booking a taxi, and many other key travel moments. It’s the ideal tool to make a great holiday even better, as well as having useful work applications for many.

Circle to Search

Circle to Search is an innovative new AI-driven feature devised by Google and available on many Android phones including Samsung Galaxy devices. It’s the perfect feature for anyone who wants even more information at their fingertips, as it allows you to – as the name suggests – circle items in a photo or video and immediately search for more on that topic.

Some of the examples cited by Google include being able to circle an item of clothing worn by your favourite Tik Tok influencer to find out exactly what brand it is, or circling a photo of a food outlet’s signature hot dog to find out exactly what toppings are on it and what the public response has been to it.

AI Photo Assist

There are few activities more beloved, or important, for most smartphone users than that of being able to use their phone to take great photos of the most meaningful moments. That’s nothing new, smartphone cameras have been advancing at pace for years, but the ability to easily improve photos hits new heights with AI Photo Assist.

We’re not just talking about neatly cropping a photo for social, or adding a new filter to touch up some tired colours. AI Photo Assist offers the potential to seamlessly move objects within a photo, to zoom way in while maintaining quality, and a host of other ways to reframe and remaster the perfect photo.
