Samsung Galaxy Z Fold7 vs Z Fold6 – What’s new in 2025?

July 21, 2025

The Galaxy Z Series has always been Samsung’s showcase for its most innovative device designs. While it’s their Galaxy S Series phones that showcase the latest hardware and really push what a smartphone can do.

What’s so special about the new Samsung Galaxy Z Fold7 is that it combines the best of both worlds. While it continues to refine and perfect the iconic Fold design, as showcased with the Galaxy Z Fold6, it also boasts the kind of game-changing specs you’d expect to find in one of Samsung’s flagship S Series Ultra phones.

Let’s go through all the new features and show why the Fold7 is such a leap forward in terms of both design and mobile technology.

Design and Build: Fold 7 vs Fold 6

Fold7 is a bigger phone than the Fold6 – but it’s thinner too. You’re getting more screen, but without extra bulk.

When unfolded, the size of the main display has jumped from 7.6 inches on Fold6 to 8 inches on Fold7. And with a slimmer bezel, there’s even more room available for breaking high scores, streaming your favourite shows, and using and collaborating on multiple apps all at the same time.

The cover screen is bigger too, going from 6.3 inches on Fold6 to 6.5 inches on Fold7. Crucially, when folded, this makes Fold7 about the same width as a standard smartphone, as opposed to the narrower Fold6 cover screen.

Despite the increase in screen size, Fold7 is actually lighter too. It weighs 218 grams compared to the 239 grams of the Fold6. And that’s because Fold7 is the slimmest Galaxy foldable yet, coming in at 8.9mm folded, and only 4.2mm when unfolded. That’s a big change from Fold6, which is 12.1mm folded and 5.6mm unfolded.

Fold 7 and Fold 6 performance

Even with its slimmer frame, the Z Fold7 still packs in a huge leap forward in power. It comes with the Qualcomm Snapdragon Elite 8 processor, the same that they use in their flagship Galaxy S25 Ultra. It’s widely considered one of the best chipsets available in a smartphone.

When the Fold6 came out, it was powered with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. That delivered huge improvements, including faster graphics rendering, faster performance, and faster AI. But Snapdragon Elite 8 goes even further. It delivers extra muscle to keep games running smoothly, with incredible graphics, including real-world shadows and reflections. And it allows AI to run at full speed.

Galaxy AI – what’s new in Samsung Galaxy Z Fold7?

The new Fold7 introduces the amazing dynamic duo of Galaxy AI and Google Gemini. Working seamlessly across apps has never been easier. Want to find a pet-friendly Italian restaurant? Just press the power button and ask. Your phone can make recommendations, book a table, WhatsApp directions to your friends, and more.

There’s also screen-sharing with Gemini Live. Have real time conversations with Gemini about what’s on your display as you scroll, click, and switch apps. You can collaborate on creative projects together, get app tutorials, compare product recommendations, and more.

Comparing cameras on the Fold7 and the Fold6

Camera tech is another area where Samsung have really elevated the Fold7.

Fold6 was launched with a 50MP main camera, 12MP ultra-wide lens, and 10MP telephoto lens. This put it on par with the pro-level photography of the Samsung Galaxy S25.

Fold7, however, comes with a huge main camera boost, taking the picture quality up to 200MP for pixel-perfect shots. The 12MP ultra-wide lens is enhanced with autofocus, which enables even better macro photography. And to capture great shots from a distance, you can use the 10MP 3x optical zoom camera.

Battery life and charging  for Fold7 and Fold6

Despite being thinner, the Fold7 doesn’t compromise on battery life. It maintains the 4400mAh battery life that the Fold6 has. This promises long-lasting power, without any drop-off in performance. And thanks to 25W Super Fast charging, you can get powered up in no time whenever you need more juice.

Samsung Fold7 vs Fold6: Which should you choose?

If you love what Galaxy Z Fold phones do, then the Fold7 gives you everything you love already taken an extra step further – a bigger screen, a slimmer design, an outstanding camera, and more processing power for all things you need your phone to do.

But if you don’t need that extra processing power, or that extra bit of screen space isn’t going to make a huge difference to you, then a Z Fold6 is still a solid choice. All the specs still compare well with most leading mobile phones available.
